Where are the protests happening in France today?
The “ça brûle” map shows the cities where the press reports a protest, strike, blockade or rally in the last 24 hours. The bigger the bubble, the more articles. Click a city, or search for yours, to read the articles.
Where does the data come from?
From online press headlines: ici (formerly France Bleu), La Dépêche, Ouest-France, Le Monde, franceinfo, Le Télégramme, actu.fr and others, plus Google News, Bing News, GDELT and Mastodon. The city named in the headline is detected automatically using the official list of French communes (geo.api.gouv.fr).
How often is the map updated?
Every 10 minutes for live mobilisations. When you zoom into an area or search for a city, the map also queries the visible communes. The two complementary datasets (domestic femicides, deaths linked to police) are refreshed once a day.
Is the map exhaustive and reliable?
No, it is indicative. It only shows what the online press relays, and location errors are possible. A mention in a headline is not a confirmation: open the source article to check. For official information, contact the prefecture or the Ministry of the Interior.
How do I know if there is a protest or blockade in my town?
Type your town's name in the search bar: the map moves there and queries the press for that commune, even a small one. If no signal appears, no mobilisation was relayed by the press in the last 24 hours.
What are the “Femicides” and “Police deaths” modes?
They are two complementary maps based on public civil-society records: domestic femicides counted by the collective Féminicides par compagnons ou ex, and deaths linked to law-enforcement interventions recorded by Désarmons-les. Victims' names are removed and positions are placed at the centre of the commune.
